What do you mean you need to ‘fire’ your pottery in a ‘kiln’?

kiln

Where in the world did those words come from? Kiln is derived from the Middle English word Kilne, which is derived from an  Old English worn cylene, meaning oven, which is itself from the Latin word culina meaning  ‘kitchen, cooking stove’ (which is the root word for culinary).

Websters defines kiln as:

kiln noun \ˈkiln, ˈkil\: an oven or furnace that is used for hardening, burning, or drying something (such as pottery).
